What is a Social Worker?

Social workers typically hold a degree in social work (BSW or MSW) and are trained in counseling and therapeutic interventions, but their education also covers broader aspects of social services, such as case management, advocacy, and connecting clients to community resources. A social worker addresses a client’s overall well-being, including emotional, social, economic, and environmental factors.


What is a Psychotherapist?

Psychotherapists can have various backgrounds, such as psychology, counseling, or psychiatry. They are typically trained specifically in psychotherapy, using methods like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychoanalysis, or other therapeutic approaches.

Psychotherapists focus on the mental and emotional health of their clients. Their primary role is to diagnose and treat mental health conditions through talk therapy or counseling and they but they focus on emotional and psychological healing.

Yes.  All our therapy sessions are hosted on our secure video-conferencing tool which is part of our secure practice management software which is PHIPA compliant.

Are your Psychotherapy and Social Worker appointments covered by insurance?
  • Most health insurance plans cover virtual social worker and psychotherapy appointments, so take advantage of your benefits to maintain optimal health, in the safety and comfort of your own home.

Every receipt includes the practitioner's provincial registration number, so you can confidently submit a claim through your private insurance plan for your appointments.

Having said that, every insurance company is different, covering different services at different percentages and dollar values.  We encourage you to speak with your insurance company before booking to confirm coverage.

Is Psychotherapy and Social Work covered by OHIP?

Unfortunately neither are covered by OHIP

Do I need a referral to book a therapy appointment?

We do not require a referral from a medical doctor, however your insurance company may require you to get one.  We encourage you to speak with your insurance company before booking.

How many sessions will I need with the therapist?

As with any healthcare service, therapy is different for each individual patient and circumstance.  During your first session, you’ll discuss your challenges, goals, obstacles, constraints and anything else pertinent to your treatment.  After that, you can work with your therapist to determine the best plan for you and your situation.
