Cracked Heels

What is it?

Proper name: Heel Fissures

Cracked heels can be an aesthetic concern but can also escalate if left untreated. They consist of dry, hard skin on the bottom and sides of the heels.

What is the Cause?

Cracked heels can be caused by a number of factors, such as dry skin due to a dry climate, being overweight, excessively walking barefoot or diabetes.

Recommended Treatment

Keeping your feet sufficiently moisturized, and removing excessive dry, hard skin with a pumice stone can prevent heels from excessively cracking. A chiropodist or podiatrist can reduce the excessive dry, hard skin and discuss how to address the underlying causes.
